The Requirement

A customer operating multiple Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) platforms required a resilient communications architecture capable of maintaining reliable command, control, and data exchange across a range of operational environments. Each vessel type presented distinct operational profiles and constraints, requiring bespoke solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

The solution needed to incorporate a comprehensive PACE plan for each vessel type, ensuring communications could be maintained across primary, alternate, contingency, and emergency pathways under any operational scenario. Project Delivery

The project began with a technical reconnaissance and requirements gathering phase, during which J6 Solutions worked closely with the customer to fully understand the operational profiles, environmental constraints, and communications requirements of each vessel type. This foundation was critical to ensuring the subsequent design work was grounded in operational reality rather than assumption.

A detailed design phase followed, producing a bespoke communications architecture for each platform. Central to this was the development of comprehensive PACE plans, ensuring that each vessel had clearly defined primary, alternate, contingency, and emergency communications pathways, capable of maintaining connectivity across a wide range of operational scenarios and environmental conditions. All designs were developed with scalability at their core, providing a clear pathway for future capability enhancements and third-party system integration.

With designs approved, J6 Solutions managed the implementation and integration of all communications equipment across the vessel fleet. This included the installation, configuration, testing, and validation of systems to ensure full compliance with operational requirements. In parallel, the supporting network infrastructure was designed, built, and brought into service, providing a secure and reliable backbone for vessel communications, data exchange, and remote management.

A comprehensive testing and acceptance programme was conducted across all platforms, verifying performance, resilience, and interoperability across every communications pathway before handover. Ongoing technical support and lifecycle management was provided following project completion.
